You must have received the benefit for April 2020

To receive the one-time payment of DKK 1,000 you must have received all or part of your benefit for the period of 1 April to 30 April 2020. It does not  matter on which date you received the benefit, as long as the benefit was payed out for the month of April. You can typically see the date on the payout message.

Please note wether your benefits are paid out to you at the beginning of the month or at the end of the month.

If your benefits are paid out at the end of the month, then the benefits for April will typically have been paid out to you on 30 April. If your benefits are paid out at the beginning of the month, then the benefits for April will typically have been paid out to you on 1 April.

However, you may also have received benefit for April at other times.

If you are entitled to receive the tax-free one-time payment of DKK 1,000 and you have a NemKonto account, the amount will automatically be paid out to you during October 2020. You do not have to apply for it youself.

Your NemKonto is a regular bank account used by the public sector in Denmark. Payments from the public sector are paid out to a NemKonto account.

Check your NemKonto during October

The one-time payment will be paid out in random order during October. Some will receive the payment in early October, others a little later. ATP are therefore not able to tell you the exact date when the money will be in your account. However, ATP  recommends that you check your NemKonto a few times during October to see, if you have received it.

Look for a payment called 'Engangstilskud' when you check your online banking or your bank statement. Here you will also find a detailed text, where you can read more about the payment. The placement of the text depends on your bank.

You will not receive a letter about the payment.

If you are switching to a new bank

If you are planing on switching to a new bank during September/October, it would be a good idea to let your bank know which account you would like to use as your NemKonto. This way, you’ll make sure that you will receive the money during October.

If you live in Denmark and do not have a NemKonto

If you receive benefits from the public sector and live in Denmark, you probably already have a NemKonto account. The vast majority of citizens in Denmark have it. Ask your bank if in doubt.

You can only receive the one-time payment if you have a NemKonto account.

If you do not have a NemKonto account, but receive public benefits and have actively requested that the money be paid out to a specific account, you must create a NemKonto account to receive the one-time payment. Contact your bank for help.

It is not possible to have the one-time payment paid to another account.

If you live abroad and do not have a NemKonto

If you live abroad, then you can use your foreign bank account as your NemKonto account.

If you have NemID, you can add your foreign bank account to NemKonto's self-service.

If you do not have NemID, you can send a form with all necessary information to NemKonto:

In case you have not received the one-time payment by 1 November

If you have not received the one-time payment on 1 November, but think you should have received it, you can apply for it. The application will be available on this page from November 1, 2020.

You must be able to document that you have received one of the benefits covered for the month of April 2020. In addition, you must have a NemKonto account.

If you meet all the conditions, then you will receive the one-time payment.

The payment will not affect the benefits, that you receive from the public sector, eg pension, old-age check, housing benefits, cash benefits (kontanthjælp), unemployment benefits, etc. This also applies in relation to your possible spouse, cohabitant and others you live with.

The one-time payment is tax-free and you do not have to change your peliminary income assessment because of it.  Also, you should not  state this as a change to your income, eg at Udbetaling Danmark.

Your assets in connection with your benefits

The payment of the DKK 1,000 will be taken into account when Udbetaling Danmark settles your assets in connection with a seniors' check or housing allowance up to and including 2022. Therefore, the one-time payment will not affect your assets either.

You may in some cases have to inform authorities and possibly document that you have received the payment, so that the authority that pays your benefit can ensure, that the payment does not affect your benefits. This may, for example, be in relation to your assets. In such case, the authority will contact you and ask for the documents needed.

Recovery of debt

The one-time payment cannot be used to recover public or private debt.
