When you work in Denmark for a Danish employer, you automatically have the right to holiday pay.
FerieKonto receives contributions from your employer and transfers them to you when you take your holiday.
In March, FerieKonto sends you a letter informing you of your holiday entitlement. The letter contains a code which you need to use when keying in your holiday dates on the self-service telephone.
When you take holiday, you must enter your holiday dates on FerieKonto's self-service website or telephone.
You will receive holiday pay according to how many days of holiday you use. Use the self-service website or phone +45 70 11 03 03 to receive your holiday pay.
Your holiday pay will be paid into your Easy Account (NemKonto). FerieKonto does not send any information about payments.
Amounts of less than DKK 100 can only be paid into a Danish bank account. FerieKonto is unable to transfer amounts of less than DKK 100 to a foreign bank account and is also unable to issue the amount as a cheque cashable internationally.
FerieKonto automatically transfers the holiday pay to your NemKonto at the beginning of the holiday year (1 May). You will not receive a letter.
FerieKonto transfers the money to your NemKonto at the end of the holiday year (30 April).

Your employer calculates your holiday pay. In general, you accrue 12.5% of your salary in holiday allowance. This complies with 2.08 days of holiday for every month that you are employed.
If your employment is shorter than one month or if there are days during a month that you do not accrue entitlement to holiday, you accrue 0.07 days of holiday for each day you are employed.
Your employer deducts tax before payment to FerieKonto.
You accrue holiday pay in the calendar year from 1 January to 31 December. You must take your holiday during the holiday year starting 1 May and ending 30 April.
E.g. if you have earned your holiday between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2013, you must take your holiday between 1 May 2014 and 30 April 2014.

If you have not received a letter, this may be because FerieKonto does not have your current address. You need to notify your change of address with the National Registration Office for FerieKonto to receive it automatically.
It may also be because FerieKonto has not received holiday pay from your employer. Your employer may be registered with a different holiday payments scheme than FerieKonto. Check with your employer which scheme your holiday pay is deposited with.

You have to take your holiday to get your holiday pay.
However, if you are unable to take your holiday for any of the reasons below, you can claim your holiday pay without having to take the holiday.
You can claim your holiday pay if:
Reasons such as severe pressure of work or a change of job are not valid reasons for being prevented from taking holiday.
If you are prevented from taking your main holiday before 30 September, you are entitled to up to 15 days of holiday pay.
If you are prevented from taking holiday before the end of the holiday year on 30 April, you are entitled to holiday pay for any residual days of holiday.
FerieKonto pays out holiday pay after 1 October and 1 May.
If you are prevented from taking holiday, simply send the following information to FerieKonto:
You can transfer your holiday to the subsequent holiday year unless your working contract states otherwise.
You can only transfer days that you have accrued more than the first 20 days. Example: If you have accrued 25 days of holiday, you can transfer 5 days to the next holiday year.
In order to transfer your holiday, your employer has to fill out and send a form to FerieKonto no later than 30 September.

Firstly, contact your employer in writing within 3 years from the end of the holiday year. If you are a member of a trade union, we advise you to contact them for assistance.
If your employer has still not deposited, you must act within 3 years from the end of the holiday year. You can either:

Please note that the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment is not obligated to collect holiday pay for you.
If your employer is bankrupt, you can forward a claim to Lønmodtagernes Garantifond (LG).
When you leave Denmark and stop working for a Danish employer, you can in some cases get all your holiday pay. This also complies even though you do not take your holiday. However, you have to apply for your holiday pay no later than 6 months after you have left the Danish labour market.

Please note that you can only have your money paid into a bank account in your own name. You cannot have the money paid into another person's account.

If your employment entitles you to paid holiday, you will receive ordinary pay when you take your holiday. It is up to you to make sure that you use up all your days of holiday before the end of the holiday year. If you leave your employment, your employer must deposit any holiday pay due to you to FerieKonto.
If you are paid by the hour, your wages will be deducted for the period in which you take your holiday. You must therefore claim for your accrued holiday pay from FerieKonto. You are NOT entitled to holiday pay while you are receiving wages.
If you are unemployed, you are still entitled to holiday. You must let your unemployment insurance fund (a-kasse) know when you are taking holiday and then claim your holiday pay from FerieKonto. You cannot have your unemployment benefits and your holiday pay paid out at the same time.
If you are prevented from taking holiday because you are on sick leave or maternity leave, you are still entitled to your holiday pay.
As a general rule you cannot have your holiday pay paid out after 30 April. However, in some cases an exception can be made if you fulfil one of the following conditions:
If you apply after the 2nd or 3rd condition and have received social benefits during the holiday year, the number of days for which you received social benefits will be deducted from the number of days of holiday that you wish to receive holiday pay for.
If you have taken your holiday or have been prevented from taking your holiday, you can have your holiday pay paid out to you at any time for up to three years after the end of the holiday year on 30 April.
You can claim your holiday pay by filling out a form, that is available on lifeindenmark.dk during the application period from 1 May to 30 September after the holiday year.
