You must have received the benefit for April 2020

To receive the one-time payment of DKK 1,000 you must have received all or part of your benefit for the period of 1 April to 30 April 2020. It does not  matter on which date you received the benefit, as long as the benefit was payed out for the month of April. You can typically see the date on the payout message.

Please note wether your benefits are paid out to you at the beginning of the month or at the end of the month.

If your benefits are paid out at the end of the month, then the benefits for April will typically have been paid out to you on 30 April. If your benefits are paid out at the beginning of the month, then the benefits for April will typically have been paid out to you on 1 April.

However, you may also have received benefit for April at other times.

If you are entitled to receive the tax-free one-time payment of DKK 1,000 and you have a NemKonto account, the amount will automatically be paid out to you during October 2020. You do not have to apply for it yourself.

Even if you do receive public benefits from the Danish state you might not have a NemKonto account. Instead you may have given your bank details to the public authority that pays out your benefit. This is not an option for the one-time payment. The one-time payment can only be paid out to a NemKonto account.

If you think you qualify according to the criteria and have not yet received the one-time payment, you need to make sure that you have an active NemKonto account. If you are in doubt, please contact your bank in Denmark. If you have an international bank account, you can check whether or not you have an active NemKonto account through Nemkonto’s self-service using your NemID or by contacting NemKonto’s customer support.

If you have an international bank account as your NemKonto account

If your NemKonto account is with a bank outside of Denmark, transferring the amount to this account will in some cases take a little longer. Your bank might also charge you a fee for the transfer.

Check your NemKonto

Look for a payment called 'Engangstilskud covid' when you check your online banking or your bank statement. Here you will also find a detailed text, where you can read more about the payment. The placement of the text depends on your bank.

You will not receive a letter about the payment.

If you have not received the one-time payment but think you qualify according to the criteria, there are different things you can do.

Check your benefit payment

To qualify for the one-time payment of DKK 1,000, you must have received one of the public benefits mentioned above and have received the benefit for April 2020. You also need a NemKonto account to receive the one-time payment.

  1. Check your benefit to see if it is listed under “Who can receive the one-time payment?”

  2. Check if you received your benefit for April 2020, e.g. in your payment specification, through the self-service solution or by contacting the public authority who paid out your benefit to you.

  3. Contact your bank to check that you have an active NemKonto account.

If you qualify, but do not have a NemKonto account

ATP will send you a letter if they have attempted to pay out the one-time payment and been unsuccessful because you do not have a NemKonto account.

When your NemKonto account is active you will automatically receive the one-time payment at the end of the month. If you have an international bank account as your NemKonto, please note that it might take time to transfer the money.

Your NemKonto account needs to be active no later than 28 February 2021.

Please note that it takes time to set up an international bank account as your NemKonto account, if you do not have NemID. Read more about creating a NemKonto account further down this page.

If you changed banks

If you changed banks in September or October 2020, there might have been a period when your new bank did not have your NemKonto account registered. Please contact your new bank to learn more.

The payment will not affect the benefits, that you receive from the public sector, eg pension, old-age check, housing benefits, cash benefits (kontanthjælp), unemployment benefits, etc. This also applies in relation to your possible spouse, cohabitant and others you live with.

The one-time payment is tax-free and you do not have to change your peliminary income assessment because of it.  Also, you should not  state this as a change to your income, eg at Udbetaling Danmark.

Your assets in connection with your benefits

The payment of the DKK 1,000 will be taken into account when Udbetaling Danmark settles your assets in connection with a seniors' check or housing allowance up to and including 2022. Therefore, the one-time payment will not affect your assets either.

You may in some cases have to inform authorities and possibly document that you have received the payment, so that the authority that pays your benefit can ensure, that the payment does not affect your benefits. This may, for example, be in relation to your assets. In such case, the authority will contact you and ask for the documents needed.

Recovery of debt

The one-time payment cannot be used to recover public or private debt.

If you do not wish to receive the one-time payment you can choose to repay the money to the state.

You can repay the money by contacting Customer Service for the one-time payment for further guidance on repayment.
