Start Add a credit warning in the Civil Registration System (CPR)

You can add or remove a credit warning in the Civil Registration System (CPR) via the self-service you will find when clicking Start.

If you are unable to fill in the self-service on your own, you can get help at the local Citizen Service centre (borgerservice). Remember to book an appointment in advance.

You must be at least 15 years old to add or remove a credit warning in the Civil Registration System (CPR).

A credit warning (in Danish: kreditadvarsel) is a marking you can add to or remove from your CPR number in the Civil Registration System (CPR). A credit warning added to your CPR number warns against loans and credit being granted in your name.

A credit warning that is added to your CPR number will be a signal to companies to pay special attention in their identity checks before granting loans or credit.

Companies that have a legitimate interest can be informed by the Civil Registration Office (in Danish: CPR-kontoret) of the credit warning. In many cases, a company might refuse a loan or credit because it suspects that the person seeking the loan or credit is not who they claim to be. In this way, specific cases of identity fraud can be prevented.

It is optional whether a company wishes to be notified of a credit warning from the Civil Registration Office. Several companies granting loans or credit suffer losses in connection with identity fraud, and it is therefore also in the interests of the companies to receive notices of a credit warning.

Many companies will have to customise their own IT systems before they can access the credit warning information in the Civil Registration System (CPR). The effect of a credit warning is therefore expected to increase as companies adjust their IT systems.

Authorities can also be notified of a credit warning in the Civil Registration System (CPR).

You can read more about credit warnings on the Civil Registration Office’s website:

It is optional whether you wish to have a credit warning connected to your CPR number in the Civil Registration System (CPR).

Examples on when it might be relevant to add a credit warning:

  • If you have lost your passport or driving licence and are concerned that it may be used for identity fraud. An identity thief may pretend to be you by showing your passport when buying a mobile phone on credit.
  • If you have already been a victim of identity fraud and now want to prevent it from happening again.

When you have added a credit warning to your CPR number, you may find that it can be more difficult for you to obtain loans or credit from companies.

You can avoid this by removing the credit warning before you apply for a loan or credit.

You can always add the credit warning again afterwards.
