An eID is an official electronic identity mean from an EU/EEA country.

An eID or electronic identity is a way to identify oneself digitally. It commonly enables access to a country’s public self-services, such as tax return, pension application, driving licence application, social security, and more.

Most EU/EEA countries have one or more official eIDs. The Danish eID is called MitID and is issued by the Danish government. Electronic identities are commonly issued by governments or by private organisations such as banks acting on behalf of a government.

With an electronic ID (eID) from an EU/EEA country you can gain access to several Danish digital self-services. To gain access to these services, you must first connect your non-Danish eID with your CPR number.

The first time you log in to a Danish self-service that requires a CPR number, you will be asked to connect your CPR number to your non-Danish eID.

What is a CPR number?

Current and former residents and taxpayers of Denmark have been given a civil registration number, which is called the CPR number. The CPR number is essential in relation to any contact with the Danish public authorities.

In order for log-in to be available, both Denmark and the other country must be connected. If your country is not available on the list, it does not mean it will not be in the future. More countries may be added or removed from the list depending on availability.

In Denmark, access is currently available with eIDs from the following countries:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Estonia
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Sweden

There are several useful services available with non-Danish eID. Some require a Danish CPR number, and some can be accessed freely with a non-Danish eID.

Services that require civil registration number (CPR number)

Some Danish digital self-services require you to have a Danish civil registration number (CPR number). For example Danish state pension and Digital Post. To gain access to these services you must first connect your non-Danish eID with your CPR number.

By connecting your non-Danish eID from an EU/EEA country to your CPR number, you will currently be able to access the following self-services:

Services that do not require CPR number

Some services do not require a CPR number, meaning you can log-in directly with your eID. Look for the eID log-in option in the self-service.

More services are being connected, so be sure to check back later if a service you need is not connected right now.

You will be redirected to an application form, where you need to provide your CPR number. If your application can be processed automatically, you can start using your non-Danish eID right away. If the connection cannot be made automatically, you can apply for a connection manually.

If the application cannot be processed automatically, you will be directed to a manual form.

It takes approximately 10 minutes to fill out the form and request to connect your non-Danish eID to your Danish CPR number. Your manual application will be processed within 3 to 11 business days.

When connected, you will be able to access CPR-required Danish public self-services using your non-Danish eID.

The local government authority in each EU/EEA country issues eIDs.

If you wish to apply for an eID from your country or need technical support with logging in, you can find your eID provider in the list below.

Find contact information to the eID providers in other EU member states

At the moment, we only support log in with eIDs from other EU/EEA countries. If you are not an EU/EEA residence and do not have an eID, you cannot use EU/EEA log-in options.

If you have ongoing cases with Danish public authorities, you need to contact them directly.

If you have questions or need support with connecting your eID with your Danish CPR number, or have difficulties logging in to Danish services you can contact the Danish eID support:
