In which subjects are pupils examined?
8th grade
In 8th grade (school year 9), you must take an examination in a mandatory practical/musical elective. That elective can be food science, crafts and design, visual arts, or music. The results of that examination will be included in the pass requirement for the municipal primary and lower secondary school leaving examination.
9th grade
In 9th grade (school year 10), you must take 5 mandatory examinations, of which 4 are mandatory exams and 1 exam is drawn at random. The 4 mandatory exams are: a written and an oral exam in Danish, a written exam in mathematics, and a common exam in physics/chemistry, biology, and geography. The Ministry of Education draws the exam that you must take as the randomly assigned exam. Each year, the exam is drawn from a pool consisting of the following subjects: English, German/French, social science, Christian studies/religion, history, and mathematics. All exams that can be drawn are oral exams. You will be informed which exams have been drawn 5 working days before the written exams begin.
10th grade
In 10th year (school year 11) you can take examinations in Danish, mathematics, English, physics/chemistry, German, and French.
Rules for the examinations
The Head of your school shall inform you about the rules for the examinations that you are going to take. The Ministry of Education has prepared a student leaflet on examinations.
What do I do if I fall ill or arrive late for an examination?
You or your parents must report your illness to the school as soon as possible. If you have been prevented from completing an examination due to illness, for example, you must take a new examination as soon as possible.
If you arrive late, the Head of your school will decide whether you can take the examination, or if you have to take it at a later date/time.
Certificates from municipal primary and lower secondary schools
All pupils who leave municipal primary and lower secondary school after 8th year (7th grade) shall have a certificate. It is the Head of the school who issues certificates for the municipal primary and lower secondary school’s examinations and certificates for pupils who leave before the 10th and 11th year (9th and 10th grade) final exams.
What do I do if I lose my school-leaving certificate?

However, you can only do so if the school-leaving certificate is from after 2008/09 and has been digitally archived by the school in question. If that is not the case, then you have to contact the school.Appeals
