  • EU residence document – only applicable for EU/EEA/Swiss citizens
  • CPR number – civil registration number – and health insurance card, if you live in one of the municipalities stated below

A CPR number can be issued at ICS Esbjerg if you are a resident in: 

the municipality of Esbjerg, Billund, Fanø, Kolding, Varde or Vejle.

Residents in other municipalities should apply for a CPR number at the local Citizen Service. The Citizen Service is called 'borgerservice' in Danish. Please check the municipality website for addresses and opening hours. 

A MitID can also be issued at ICS Esbjerg if you are resident in:

Esbjerg, Billund, Fanø, Kolding, Varde or Vejle.

When you apply for your CPR number, please ask for more information regarding MitID.

Nordic citizen

If you live in one of the following municipalities, you can register at ICS Esbjerg: Esbjerg, Billund, Fanø, Kolding, Varde or Vejle.

In order to be registered you need to book an online appointment with Citizen Service in Esbjerg:

Follow the instructions given in the confirmation email that you will receive, the address is: Esbjerg Kommune, Borgerservice, Torvegade 74, 6700 Esbjerg.

For your appointment with Citizen Service in Esbjerg, please notice: You have to fill in a paper form when you attend to Citizen Service. 

Things to remember when you apply for a CPR number

A permanent address in Denmark is mandatory in order to be able to apply for a CPR number. The minimum residing period needed for a permanent address at ICS Esbjerg is 3 months.

Health insurance card

Your health insurance card, also called yellow card, is ordered as a part of the CPR number process. Within 30 days you can expect to receive the card by post. Please make sure to have the correct name on your mailbox otherwise the card will not be delivered to your postal address.

MitID

For citizens in one of the following municipalities: Esbjerg, Billund, Fanø, Kolding, Varde or Vejle. When you apply for your CPR number, please ask for more information regarding MitID.

MitID is your personal secure login for digital contact with public authorities, for your Digital Post, for net banking and a wide range of online self-service solutions.

  • Your original passport/national ID card
  • Proof of your address in Denmark, for instance rental contract, housing confirmation from landlord
  • Your original marriage certificate, if you are married. Please remember to bring your marriage certificate even if your partner is not accompanying you. Divorce certificate/death certificate if applicable
  • Original birth certificates for accompanying children under 18 years

Please note: Only marriage certificates and birth certificates regarding your children in English/German/Scandinavian languages are accepted. EU citizens can ask for an international version of their marriage and birth certificates in their home country. Non-EU citizens would need to ask a certified interpreter to translate the documents into Danish or English. Marriage and birth certificates from some countries might need to be apostille certified or legalised.

Your tax card must be ordered online – as a part of the process, you must upload a legible copy of the following:

  • Your signed employment contract
  • Passport or national ID card – both copy of front and back of card. For individuals residing in Sweden: Please attach a copy of either your passport or your national ID card + civil registration certificate
  • Your marriage certificate, if you are married

You can submit your tax card application, when you have less than 60 days until you start working.

The processing time varies, but it usually takes 3 to 6 weeks to process your application.

EU/EEA/Swiss citizen

Start Book an appointment to apply for EU residence document

If you and your family members plan to stay in Denmark for more than 3 months, you can apply for an EU residence document at the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI), located in the same office as ICS Esbjerg.

You first need to complete an application. Once you have completed the application, you can book an appointment at SIRI. Remember that each applicant - including your children, if any - must appear in person. You will get an email with a booking confirmation and a booking number. Please bring the booking number when you visit ICS Esbjerg.

You can apply for a CPR number if you have received your EU residence document at the same day at ICS Esbjerg and you are a resident in the municipality of Esbjerg, Billund, Fanø, Kolding, Varde or Vejle.

In order to book an appointment at the Citizen Service in Esbjerg – to obtain a Danish CPR number and health insurance card, please book at the SIRI office. 

If you live in another municipality than stated above, you need to apply for a CPR number at the local Citizen Service in your residence municipality.
